Haoyang is a biomedical engineering PhD student who joined the Schaffer-Nishimura Lab in the fall of 2023. He is originally from Jinan, Shandong, China. He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) and Computer Science from Wake Forest University at Winston-Salem, NC. During his undergraduate, Haoyang worked with Dr. Susan Fahrbach on the study of mitochondria density in projection neurons boutons in honeybee mushroom body. Within the Schaffer-Nishimura Lab, Haoyang is working on the development of a bioluminescent brain-machine interface.
