Cornell Icelandic Herd

Our horses are pure bred, registered Icelandic horses. They have contributed to the research projects at Cornell University to find novel treatments for Culicoides hypersensitivity (also known as summer eczema), to develop better vaccines for and characterize immunity and protection against Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1), and to explore vaccination and immunity against Lyme disease in horses. The horses are now looking for a second career as a pleasure riding, trail, or sports horse.

New in August 2023: Horses available for reservation are listed below.

Young Horses Born in 2022

The following Icelandic yearlings, all born in 2022, can be reserved. They can leave Cornell University in late summer 2025 when they are three years of age. If you would like to reserve one of these horses, contact Dr. Bettina Wagner for details on the process. A reserved horse will no longer be offered for sale; it stays in the herd of young Icelandic horses at Cornell until late summer 2025 when it can be picked up by the new owner. All pictures of the 2022 horses were taken last year at foal age.

Eldfaxi (gelding, chestnut) is the most colorful yearling in the 2022 group. He is very pretty, with a big blaze and three white legs, which fully compensates for his smaller size. He has natural tölt and will become a calm and reliable horse with correct training.
