Although small-scale stroke is a leading factor in cognitive decline in the elderly, no good animal model for this disease exists. I am currently working to turn the laser-based blood vessel clotting techniques we recently developed for use in rodents into a realistic animal model of small-scale stroke. This animal model can then be used to study the progression of neural death and disease, and will provide a testbed to evaluate the effiacy of therapeutic strategies. I received my Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Califronia, San Diego in 2006, where I worked with David Kleinfeld. My undergraduate degree is from Harvard University, also in Physics.
